Welcome to Forde AbbeyIMG_1451

Forde Abbey in Dorset is a treasure dating back almost 900 years.  It is a family home as well as a living and breathing working estate, and welcomes visitors all year round.

Please explore our website to see what you can experience on a day visit here: enjoy a stroll around the beautiful 30 acres of gardens and lakes, marvel at the age and beauty of the house, and the transformations it has gone through during its long life. Admire the famous Mortlake tapestries created from the cartoons Raphael painted for the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Enjoy a tea, or lunch, in the Monastic Undercroft Tearoom, browse the Gift Shop and Plant Centre for that unusual present, or perfect plant. Hopefully you will find something for everyone here, and we look forward to welcoming you.

 What’s good at the Moment.

The gardens are beautiful at the moment, especially the flowering shrubs such as Azaleas, Magnolias and flowering Cherries. Wandering up onto the Mount through the Woodland Garden, in the sun is truly lovely at the moment.

The Rock Garden, with its stunning flowering cherry is also a lovely spot to sit and admire the house from.

The Bog Garden is changing daily, and showing real  promise of the show to come in the next few weeks, as are the blue Meconopsis. The Sweet Peas are beginning to twine around their wigwams in the Kitchen Garden, and new vegetables are being planted on an almost daily basis. An exciting time to be in the garden.
